The British Royal Mint operates from its modern, state of the art plant in South Wales. It is the sole supplier of UK coin and exports both circulation coin and coinage blanks to over one hundred countries. Annual production is in the region of thirty thousand tonnes which equates to over five billion coins and blanks. Nearly two-thirds are plated steel products (brass, copper and nickel) where the British Royal Mint is the clear international market leader.

In addition, production for both the domestic and export markets includes significant volumes of proof and uncirculated collector coins, gold and silver bullion coins, tokens, military and civilian medals, commemorative medallions and official seals for the Royal family and Government departments. It also markets a wide range of gift and collectible items. Recognised and acclaimed as the industry's leader in coinage and blank production and design technology, in 1991 it was the first mint to qualify to ISO 9001 and in 2005 it was the first and remains the only mint to qualify for ISO 14001, the international standard for excellence in environmental and safety practice.
