Ralf Wintergerst was born in 1962 in Neukirchen - Vluyn, Germany. He studied Business Management in Düsseldorf and in Dortmund.

Since 1998 Ralf Wintergerst had held different managing positions by the company Giesecke & Devrient. Since 2005 he has been holding the post of Banknote Processing Technologies Executive. Since 2005 he is the member of the Board of the Directors of the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA).

Before 1998 Ralf Wintergerst was working for a number of years for "American Express" in Frankfurt and London.
