Gerry Gaetz

Mr. Gaetz is the Chief of Currency, responsible for the Bank of Canada's Currency function, including the development and up-coming launch of the Next Generation bank note series, a new bank note distribution system pilot project, as well as currency-related economic research.
Mr. Gaetz holds an MBA degree from the University of Ottawa and is a Certified General Accountant.
Mr. Gaetz has held various senior positions during his career with the Bank. In 1996, he led a major initiative to re-engineer and consolidate the Bank's currency operations across the country. In 2001, Mr. Gaetz was appointed Head of Corporate Services for the Bank of Canada where he was responsible for the Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Security functions. In this role, Mr. Gaetz provided leadership in a major project to outsource the Bank's Retail Debt Operations and subsequently restructure the Bank's corporate administration. As Chief of Banking Operations (Currency), Mr. Gaetz implemented a new strategy for the Bank Note function, oversaw the launch of Canada's Canadian Journey bank note series and the development of a new banking system to support Canada's critical payment system functions.
Mr. Gaetz is a member of the Executive Committee of the G10 Central Banks Counterfeit Deterrence Group, the Board of the Canadian Police College, and is a Director of a Canadian charity organization. He has worked abroad on assignment with the International Monetary Fund. He was a member of a 2005 Canadian Expedition to climb Mount Everest.
