Thomas Ferguson

Former Director, U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Thomas A Ferguson retired as the Director of the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) in 2005, and now runs his own consulting company out of Howard County Maryland.

Mr. Ferguson served as director from 1998 after having a long career with the BEP starting in 1974. As Director he oversaw the first major changes in US Currency Design in over 60 years culminating in the “Color of Money” Series started in 2003.

Over the years he held a variety of responsible positions within the Bureau including the Director of the Securities Technology Institute and he chaired the New Currency Design Task Force that recommended the security features that were incorporated into the Series 1996 US currency.

Tom received his BA in economics from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
